Introduction to Pilates

Pilates is a far cry from the “modern fitness craze” many people think it is – Pilates has been developed and practiced since the early 1920’s when Joseph and Clara Pilates opened their “Body Conditioning Gym”.

Joseph Pilates was born in 1883, Germany.  He invented a physical fitness system, aided with machines/apparatus, that would improve techniques and help people recover from injuries. His unique method saw many famous dancers and actors attend his studios. Joseph Pilates believed that mental and physical health were interrelated, which is why his technique has been so successful in helping people return to their optimum health. These days over 12 million people practice Pilates, and the numbers continue to grow due to its adaptability and proven effectiveness.

Pakenham Osteopathy is pleased to offer Pilates classes to the locals of Pakenham, Officer, Beaconsfield, Berwick and Bunyip. You’ll find our timetable and a link to secure your spot at the bottom of the page.

You don’t need to be injured or in pain to benefit from Pilates, it is great for general conditioning and toning too!
